Floyd and the rains

Floyd seem to have something apt for most things in life. Even record breaking rains in Bombay. No am not kidding. Check these lyrics out.

" Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to form my bones besides the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell call
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells."

Am sure a lot of Bombayites (or Mumbaikars!) would agree with the first few lines... and it will take a magic spell or two to get everything back to normal. But to normal it will return sooner or later. Sooner knowing Bombay!

All things Live 8

I know it's a bit late to talk about it but what the hell. Couple of days back I got the videos of Pink Floyd and The Who's performance at Live 8. God bless the Internet!! It was amazing watching Floyd reunite after over two decades. Since years I have said it's impossible for Roger Waters and David Gilmour to put aside their differences. For once am glad to be proven wrong. Thanks Bob. Even if they do NOTHING as Pink Floyd again I think it's an amazing way to end a brilliant career. I kinda wish they didn't do Money. Would have preferred Us And Them. But I guess Money is kind of apt for Live 8 (not that Us And Them isn't apt). Thank God no Brick II. The last 3 acts at Hyde Park were a real treat for me. Floyd, The Who and McCartney playing Beatles covers. My 3 favourite groups! Worth staying up till 5 AM I say.

Aside from the music Live 8 was quite an eye opener in some ways. All of us know about the problems in Africa but we don't really give it too much thought. Why should we anyway with our relatively comfortable lives? But seeing some of the African footage made me think.. Like one of my friends said "you feel bad even wasting food now"... We have so much in urban india.. but of course we love to grumble.. "people in the states and Europe have so much more" and so forth.. Somehow now I don't feel so bad about being stuck on MTNL dialup while the guys at LG drag their asses and delay procuring the charger for my Reliance phone (which I use for the net).

It's a pity some fanatic idiots decided to shift the focus of the G8 summit from the environment and the African situation to terrorism. Even if the African debt isn't cancelled I feel Bob Geldof has achieved something. He has brought the world's attention to the plight of the people in Africa and am sure he has raised a lot of money for it too. And of course got Floyd to play together hehe. And put up a hell of a rock show.

So, thanks Bob! You rock!

Why Progressively Twisted you may ask?

Ok, so I thought let's give blogging a chance. I don't know how often I'll post or even what I'll post about... Thinking of going with the flow. Write about whatever grabs my attention. Ok now why Progressively Twisted?.. Well most of you know it's my on and off MSN nick... and most of you even know why I chose it.. but for the benefit of those who don't here goes:

I am crazy about progressive rock (not all groups but I like quite a few of them) and I don't think am quite sane (sanity equals boredom at times for me). Hence "Progressively Twisted"

Ok maybe not insane in a clinical way but definitely not totally normal either. Here are a few examples of my craziness.. Few years ago I discovered Pink Floyd... by now I own all their albums, dvds, a fair amount of concerts and a couple of books.. after Floyd it was Prog Rock... some of the stuff I listen to is practically unheard of in India.. or at least some groups are.. One of them happens to be Flower Kings.. like Floyd am crazy about them and own all their albums (none of which are available in India mind you, all bought from amazon.. told you I was crazy...)

That just covers my listening material... am crazy about audio systems too.. I started life with a simple boombox. From there moved on to my 2nd system which was a marantz amp and monitor audio bronze speakers... This system would be good for most people but nooo not me.. Last year I shifted to my current setup which consists of: a) NAD Silverline amp and CD player (S300 + S500) b) PSB Stratus Goldi speakers. I totally love this system but am quite sure it's not my last purchase.... Priyesh at Lakozy will see to that.

Moving away from music let's talk about my other obsession: STAR TREK!! I have seen most of the episodes of all the Star Trek series... It doesn't end there... I have a ton of their ebooks (and I still want more!!!).

As you can see I like to go after things I like in a big way... If I like an author I'd like to read most of his/her works.. and so it goes...I find it strange when I see people who arn't crazy or driven about something...

I think I have rambled enough for one post. Later.
